A huge thank you to our colleague, Sofia Scheltinga, and António Marques who came to school to teach us about bird ringing. They set up their nets around our school grounds at 5am and could not believe the number and wide variety of birds which were caught in them. Each bird was carefully weighed, measured and a ring was attached to its leg. Our students were then given the opportunity to set them free. The information about these birds was recorded and entered into the international database. Every Saturday morning Sofia and António, along with their colleagues, invite the public to come along and see for themselves how the process of bird ringing works.
